“Nature in Mind” Art Classes

The new Welcome and Discovery Center at Lovers Key State Park is pleased to announce art classes and programs taught by our Artist in Residence . The new “Nature in Mind” Art Classes on canvas and other creative art projects will be held with Award Winning Artist, Jenny M. Licht, Artist-in-Residence, Lovers Key State Park. 

Jenny is a professional, award-winning working artist with a degree in art with painting emphasis from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.  Jenny has been teaching art to adults and children throughout SW Florida for the past 8 years.  Her Wissota Art Studio is located in Bella Terra, where she also conducts classes by invitation.
Once a month beginning October 8, 2021 through March 11, 2022 (except December), Jenny will be offering art classes at the Welcome and Discovery Center classroom at Lovers Key State Park with a new topic each month. See the calendar schedule for dates and topics. 

Pre-paid registration is required.

Dates, times and events could be changed or added, so please check the Friends of Lovers Key (FOLKS) calendar periodically to confirm events. The calendar can be found on the website at:

For art classes to be held, a minimum of 5 participants are required.  Class size is limited.

Friday, October 8, 2021ART CLASS Sea Star on Canvas with Fanciful Border10:00am -Noon$35 per person. Pre-registration required.Class held at the Welcome and Discovery Center at Lovers Key State Park.The Sea Star is a sea lover’s favorite, as they come in all shapes and colors.  The expressionistic watery background is ideal for students to choose the color of their sea star or go with the sample provided.All materials provided:  Gallery wrapped 11” x 14” canvas, use of brushes and apron, palette, easel, acrylic paint, paint cloths and other supplies, as well as step by step art guidance.   Color choices, composition, paint application and techniques as well as other art topics are discussed during the class session with an emphasis on the connection between art and nature.  You’ll leave with a beautiful completed masterpiece ready to hang when you get home.   After Art Class join in the free Art Journaling Walk!


Friday, Oct. 8, 2021FREE Art Journaling Walk w/Jenny M. Licht, Artist-in-Residence, Lovers Key State ParkMeet at the Welcome and Discovery Center open air classroom. Choose from two available walks, 12:30pm or 1:30pm.Free journals and pencils are included in the free hour-long nature-walk art lessons.Group size is limited to the first 15 participants to arrive. A Park Ranger may accompany the group to answer questions about flora and fauna of the Park. Depending on availability, Jenny will release Monarch or other butterflies that she raises.
