FOLK is a non-profit, citizen support organization (CSO) established to protect, preserve and support Lovers Key State Park. You can get involved by becoming a member, volunteer or donor, by bringing yourself, friends and family to our special events and fundraisers. Together, we can preserve our Florida coastal legacy and ensure that it is available for future generations.

Your membership or donation to Friends of Lovers Key helps support our efforts in raising money, increasing awareness and involvement for park programs and initiatives, recruiting volunteers to assist with special projects, procuring guides and docents to conduct tours and programs, developing their own programs and events, and in marketing to the community. It is also tax deductible.

We invite you to partner with our organization, because we’re stronger together.

docent volunteers at Lovers Key State Park

Are you looking for a way to give back to the park while enriching your knowledge of Lovers Key’s wildlife, history, and recreational opportunities at the same time? Never fear! The perfect volunteering opportunity for you is here!

Join us at the award-winning Welcome and Discovery Center as one of our phenomenal docent volunteers! The Center serves as the educational hub of the park, and our docents bring its state-of-the-art exhibits to life with their passion, knowledge, and storytelling abilities. If you enjoy conversing with folks about the beauty and wonder of Lovers Key, then this opportunity is for you!

Benefits of Docenting:

Flexible days and short shifts! The Center is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 AM to3 PMgiving you plenty of time to hit the beach, trails, or canals before or after your shift!

Meet new park friends! Our ideal shift is two or more docents per shift to ensure you’ll have lots of opportunities to meet other folks who enjoy Lovers Key just as much as you do!

Introduce others to Lovers Key! You’ll teach our guests about the wacky history and wonderful wildlife that resides in the park as well as the many exciting recreational opportunities available.

Expand your own knowledge! You’ll learn about hidden park gems, wildlife updates, park history, and so much more via our exhibits, docents, staff, and reading materials available at the Center.

Exclusive docent opportunities! You’ll gain access to volunteer-only opportunities including exclusive guided programs, turtle patrols, appreciation events, and more!
